I met James Matheny in Bricktown while he was playing a Recorder.  He told me that he picked this instrument up while teaching in New Zealand and that the Recorder is something of a national instrument.  Out of curiosity, I Googled that online and found this and this.  Bricktown, Oklahoma City, Summer 2011.
