Michelle had a photo session scheduled on an early Saturday morning a few months ago. We were in Bricktown, near downtown Oklahoma City. While we waited for the family to arrive, I snapped a few photos of the street and architecture, including this lowly parking meter… In color and black and white.

My little girl is a Harry Potter fan. Actually, she’s a fan of any movie that’s playing. Put on a movie and she can’t help herself – she has to sit down and watch. Although we have a television, we don’t have TV (no cable, no antennae), so movies are a treat in the evenings, after homeschool and dinner. Tonight it was HP3, and she was enthralled enough that between Michelle and me, we got about ten of these.

I’m trying out black and white photography more often. In this case I think it works because there are multiple colors in the blanket, carpet, and brick fireplace that don’t go well together. I just like black and white for the simplicity.

Below is an older photo. I met James Matheny last Summer while he was performing in Bricktown. Mr. Matheny’s badge read “Street Performer,” but his life’s work represents much more than that. This Recorder came from New Zealand where Mr. Matheny taught band for a few years.
I wanted to see how this photo looked in black and white.

Mr. Matheny’s son stood across the bridge and watched his father perform. I also visited with him for awhile. We watched as these young ladies came out of the movie theater and stopped to listen.
